- What is an internal medicine
physician?
- Are you looking for an accurate definition of an internal
medicine phyician? In plain
language, they are "Doctors for Adults." Interestingly enough, they are
usually categorized by several terms, including "internists," "general
internists" and "primary care physicians."

|
| What is Internal
Medicine The
term "Internal Medicine" comes from the German term Innere Medizin, a
discipline popularized in Germany in the late 1800s to describe physicians who combined
the science of the laboratory with the care of patients. Many early 20th century American
doctors studied medicine in Germany and brought this medical field to the United States.
Thus, the name "internal medicine" was adopted. Doctors of internal medicine at Internal
Medicine Doctors of the North Shore continue to practice and refine this medical
field. They have had special study and training focusing on the prevention and
treatment of adult diseases.
- In today's ever-changing medical environment, Internal
Medicine Doctors of the North Shore take pride in caring for their patients.
When other medical specialists, such as surgeons, oncologists, or gyenacologists
become involved, we continue to coordinate the patient's care and manage the associated
medical problems.
